6 Flower Seeds I’m Gifting Everyone I Know This Christmas – To Inspire Their Garden In 2025
Give the most meaningful gift of growing this holiday season. Senior Editor Melanie shares her flower seed picks to delight both new and experienced gardeners.
Christmas can be such a materialistic holiday, with the pressure to buy expensive presents for loved ones. Yet, I can’t think of anything more thoughtful and inspiring than the gift of flower seeds that will fill a garden with beautiful blooms for months – if not years – on end.
There are endless options to choose from – think cutting garden flowers that will fill vases all summer long, edible flowers and seeds for keen cooks, and pollinator magnets for wildlife-lovers.
When choosing gifts for gardeners, why not slip a pack of seeds into a greeting card or stocking, or present a selection in a reusable gift bag? It will make a refreshing change from the usual socks and chocolates and is one of the most eco-friendly gift ideas.
Here, I’ve selected my top seed varieties, chosen for beauty, versatility, longevity, and ease of care – all the while thinking about supporting pollinators and other local wildlife.
All featured seeds are available through the Gardening Know How Shop – a one-stop destination representing tried-and-trusted brands.

1. Cupcakes and Saucers Cosmos Seeds
Most gardeners I know grow cosmos every summer. The flowers are wonderful for cutting, beloved by pollinators, and make a big impact in borders. However, I didn’t bother growing any this year as I’m finding the delicate pastel flowers have become a little too predictable.
Yet, these gorgeous Cupcakes and Saucers Mix Cosmos Seeds might just reignite my passion for the flowers. Unlike the daisy-like flowers of the classic cosmos, the petals of this unique variety curve up and inward to create a bowl-like form.

The seeds come in a mix of three vintage pastel shades, which perfectly balance the flowers’ quirky appearance, making them a head-turning choice for cottage gardens and modern schemes alike.
These award-winning cosmos have plenty more to recommend them: they thrive in even poor, challenging soil and while beneficial insects love them, they are known to repel pests, making them an ideal companion plant for vegetable gardens. What’s not to love?
2. Common Milkweed Seeds
One of the most important things all gardeners can do is plant more butterfly host plants. These pollinator saviors are vital to the existence of butterflies, moths, and other beneficial insects.
In particular, I’m going to gift these Common Milkweed Heirloom Seeds to loved ones at Christmas, to encourage them to support precious Monarch butterflies, who rely on milkweed as their only host plant. This native perennial offers shelter and food to Monarch caterpillars, while providing nectar to a host of other species.
As well as being integral to local ecosystems, common milkweed serves up a visual feast, with magnificent clusters of pink to purple flowers and a meadow-like perfume.
Milkweed is easy to grow and survives a range of conditions, including extreme temperatures, poor soil, and salty air.
3. Hungarian Blue Poppy Seeds
These breathtaking Hungarian Blue Poppy Seeds have fast become a favorite variety for the Gardening Know How team. With its richly toned purple-blue flowers and intricate darm markings, the heirloom variety is a real stunner.
It’s an ideal gift for gardeners who love to bake, as once the flowers are spent, the delicious seeds are suitable for harvesting and sprinkling on bread, muffins, and bagels.
Poppies are easy to grow too – simply sow the seeds directly into the garden when spring arrives, and they’ll provide the most uplifting blanket of color in just three months or less. What could be a better gift than that?
4. Maverick Mix Geranium Seeds
Geraniums are brimming with old-fashioned romantic charm without feeling outdated. They are a delight to see in window boxes, hanging baskets, and small pots lined up in a row.
These Maverick Mix Geranium Seeds offer a particularly beautiful floral showcase, with dreamy spherical flower heads in shades of white, pink, red, lavender, orange, and more.
Laying from early summer right through to the start of fall, these geraniums offer so much value for one little packet of seeds. Though usually grown as annuals, the flowers can be overwintered indoors and enjoyed as perennials the following year.
They thrive in hot, humid summers in full sun to part shade, and can even tolerate soggy weather. These versatile geraniums are a joy to grow and behold.
5. Funfair Mix Zinnia Seeds
Offering a vivid burst of blooms from early summer until the first frost, Funfair Mix Zinnia Seeds are true garden heroes. They are also a breeze to grow, making a wonderful gift for beginner gardeners who need an easy win to boost their confidence.
These captivating zinnias make a fabulous addition to home-grown bouquets, and can even be eaten in salads. They’re pollinator magnets, providing a rich nectar source to local wildlife, yet deer won’t touch them.
Zinnias thrive in the heat and are drought-tolerant once established. They can be started indoors in advance or sown directly for minimal effort. Just be sure to deadhead regularly to keep the wave of blooms going all summer long.
6. Cheyenne Spirit Coneflower Seeds
I can’t think of any flower seeds that offer more value than Cheyenne Spirit Coneflower Seeds. Rather than the traditional spindly purple coneflowers, these daisy-like blooms come in a range of radiant sunny hues on well-branched compact plants.
They are some of the longest flowering perennials going, gracing the garden from midsummer through fall without the need for deadheading.
Don’t let their delicate appearance fool you: these hardy flowers will stand up to heat, humidity, cold, wind, and rain without letting you down, and need almost no maintenance.
The variety also differs from other coneflowers for its ability to flower in its first year, within a few short months of a January sowing. It’s the perfect gift for a gardener who’s eager to get growing as early as possible in the New Year.
